Classical Ballet

Classical ballet
Grade 5 Ballet ages 10-12yrs

Ages 10 to 12 years

Classical ballet is the foundation of Mosman Dance Academy's dance training. Students in Grade 5 follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus ensuring they learn the skills that underpin secure technique, including core stability, weight placement, turnout and line, while continuing to nurture and encourage artistry and dynamics. Experience is not required to begin ballet classes and we cater for dancers who enjoy recreational ballet as well as those with a view to pursuing ballet at an examination level.

Dancers in Grade 5 ballet have the opportunity to participate in our annual concert held in November.  ​All your dancers ballet uniform items are available in our dance wear shop at MDA.

Tuesday: 4.45pm

Saturday: 10.30am & 1.00pm (open class)

Intermediate Foundation Ballet ages 11-15yrs

Intermediate Foundation

Ages 11 to 15 years

Classical ballet is the foundation of Mosman Dance Academy's dance training. Students in Intermediate Foundation follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus challenging and inspiring dancers technically, artistically, musically and creatively with exercises that encourage critical thinking and physical fitness while also developing a sense of theatre, movement dynamics and musical interpretation. 

Experience is required to undertake ballet classes at this level.

Dancers in Intermediate Foundation ballet have the opportunity to participate in our annual concert held in November.  ​All your dancers ballet uniform items are available in our dance wear shop at MDA.

 

Intermediate Foundation ballet class times:

Monday: 5.00pm 

Tuesday: 5.30pm

Saturday : 11.15am & 1.00pm (open class)

Strengthening Saturday: 12.00pm

Jazz

Intermediate Jazz

Ages 9 to 13 years

Jazz covers a wide range of dance styles from that seen in musicals to modern contemporary and hip-hop interpretations.
In MDA's jazz class dancers learn funky age appropriate routines with a technical focus. Jazz is a great free movement class for dancers after a ballet class and builds dancer presence, awareness and confidence.

Dancers in Intermediate jazz have the opportunity to participate in our annual concert held in November.  ​All your dancers jazz uniform items are available in our dance wear shop at MDA.

Contemporary

Intermediate Contemporary ages 10-14yrs

Intermediate Contemporary

Ages 10 to 14 years

Ballet classes required.

Contemporary class has strong classical foundations without the rigidity of ballet class. In contemporary, more emphasis is placed on ease of movement, fluidity and energy. Dancers will learn contemporary based technique and dance choreographed pieces.

Ages 9-12 years

Lyrical dance is expressive. Ranging in movements that can be lyrical and soft, to abstract and angular, lyrical dance can also be described as slow and expressive jazz movements with an emphasis on technique, adagio, floor and centre.

Dancers in Intermediate lyrical have the opportunity to participate in our annual concert held in November.

Tap

Levels 4 & 5 Tap ages 10+

Intermediate Tap

Ages 10 & above

Tap is lively and popular dance style, perfect for those who like to move and make music at the same time.Classes include combinations, routines and fun rhythm exercises designed to develop both technique and musicality. Exams are also offered yearly through the Glenn Wood Tap syllabus. If you like music, you'll love tap!

Hip Hop

Levels 4 & 5 Hip Hop ages 9-13yrs

Intermediate Hip Hop

Ages 9 to 13 years

Inspired by dance moves seen in today's music video clips, hip-hop is an exciting class suited to boys and girls of all skill levels. These classes encourage dancer performance skills and enjoyment of music and movement while increasing fitness and strength. Classes involve warm ups, hip-hop combinations and age appropriate routines.

Hip Hop

Acro

Intermediate Acro ages 9-13yrs

Intermediate Acro

Ages 9 to 13 years

MDA offers students the discipline of acrobatics, with a professional acrobatics teacher. Our acrobatics programme is specifically designed and developed for dancers. Acro students are taught foundation movements and strengthening in order to be able to progress to back bends and hand stands, and eventually aerials and flips. Acro is a challenging experience that is lots of fun and gives you a competitive edge.
